| Sri Lanka considers education as one of the main pillars of economic and social development. The goal of education in Sri Lanka is to produce skilled citizens who are capable of competing in the global market and contribute to domestic economic growth. While Sri Lanka has achieved progress in basic human development, it has been unable to translate these achievements into sustainable economic growth. A large number of graduates lack the skills needed for employment. Innovative educational policies are needed to reduce the gap between a large number of unemployed and the demand for highly skilled workers with knowledge of information and communication technology (ICT). The international community is supporting the development of the education sector by providing ICT expertise. However, the current demand for education and training requires additional strategies and action.
Organizations having big HR bases are at both advantageous and disadvantageous position due to HR resource produced in the above context. Also big organizations are in trouble of recruiting talented HR and recruits needs extensive training and obviously training cost goes high and need to face further problems such as good training content, good trainers, good training methodologies and training venues etc. This becomes more challenging as training of existing staff also should be done continuously in order offer efficient and effective service for customers and to be competitive in the particular business in which the organization in.
When considering factors like training of personnel of Branches away from Colombo, Removing staff for longer period time, their cost of traveling and subsistence, training masses the training based on technology becomes the most viable.
Rapid innovation in ICT is transforming the way we work, the way we interact, the way we learn, and the way we live. In the education sector, e-learning increases access to education/Training by making it possible for students/learners to fit their education/training into traditional lifestyle and work schedules and by providing the freedom to choose from more and higher quality learning venues. E-Learning is a mode of providing learning experiences to learners, using ICT to overcome barriers of traditional learning. The employment of multimedia technology in education/training makes it possible to illustrate and teach/demonstrate complex processes. Computer courseware can be effectively designed using a systems approach as well as integrating appropriate instructional systems design principles.
During the proposed course, benefits and issues of e-learning will be discussed, in contrast to the traditional learning. Relevant software, hardware and courseware will be reviewed so that participants will know the jargon used in the context. The workshop will also introduce a learning management system to monitor teaching-learning process.
The major issue in this paradigm shift is people who are for this and against this. It is true compared to other changes due to cultural reasons of education/training, undue advantages some had in face to face training(enjoying leave, extra payments, traveling to Colombo etc) some trainees do not like e-learning. Some trainers do not like as they think their loosing their position which is a myth and they secure a better position.
Organizations are at a very big advantageous position if they change the mindset of the people who associate in training. This course addresses, these issues and have favorable solutions for every one.
